English teachers everywhere were surely gnashing their teeth as students sang along with \u201cBetween You and I\u201d by Jessica Simpson in 2006. But she can be forgiven; it\u2019s a hypercorrection heard sputtering from the mouths of many educated people. <\/p>\n<p><center><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.buffyholt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grammar.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"Grammar\" width=\"135\" height=\"370\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.buffyholt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grammar.png 135w, https:\/\/www.buffyholt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grammar-109x300.png 109w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 135px) 100vw, 135px\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The reason it\u2019s wrong is that <em>between<\/em> is a preposition, and it\u2019s a rule that pronouns following prepositions have to be in the objective case. Me is the objective pronoun; I is a subjective pronoun.
