Today, I almost died. Here’s how.
It’s been eight years since I traded in the Thunderbird for trains, tubes and taxis. Since I gave up private transport for the public kind. I know I sometimes moan about queues and time tables but the truth of it is, I enjoy being able to hail cabs from my doorstep and catch trains to the continent from just around the corner.
This morning I paid a visit to Burberry (because it’s not considered cheap and chavy on this side of the pond) and the Cheesecake Factory (because he hasn’t been able to get it out of his mind since reading this blog). On a whim I decided to drive. Pulled out onto the left side of a right sided street – i.e. the wrong side of a very busy road – and was reminded that, for the moment, I’m no longer in Blighty.
Blimey!

Oh you’re brave! Glad it turned out OK. Hope you found some great stuff at B’berry.
Eep – that’s a pretty dangerous reminder! Next time just tie a string around your finger or something.
I drive like a Grandma. That’s what you get for subway living. I don’t mind.
On the plus side Katherine, I did get a lovely jacket from The Burb – sans plaid of course, so I can wear it home. And the man is ecstatically enjoying his cheesecake as we speak.
May want to stick with the public transportation!
Cheesecake is my weakness. I’d nearly die to get some, too.
Glad you’re okay. That’s a hell of a reminder.
I love the Cheesecake Factory. You just reminded me how much. As for driving in London. Girl, are you crazy?!! They drive on the wrong side of the road.
Be careful! Nothing says “American” like driving on the wrong side of the road! Sadly, our public transport (light rail) takes just as long to get anywhere as does the car, and the buses take longer!
OH!!! Hope you’re OK!! Scary, I have the problem of looking the wrong direction when crossing the street there, you know, expecting cars to come from the opposite side. Anyway, be careful!
Those pesky driving laws. ; ) I have done that a time or two in my day. You know, hypothetically, of course.
YIKES! Be careful Miss Buff, you aint’ in Kansas anymore
Too funny! I lived in New York for years and didn’t need a car until I moved to Phoenix. Driving gave me nightmares for years! Hope you land in a place where you can get back to trains, tubes and taxis! I may even join you!
The salads at Cheesecake are the best! As for crossing the steet, I was in London for days and never got the hang of it! Eeeep!
Hey, thanks for stopping by my place!
I can’t imagine having to get used to drive on the other side of the road. I’d definitly end up dead!
My boyfriend and i were in the back seat of my friend’s (from scottland)car when she drove for the first time in Sweden. Needless to say we were a bit whiteknuckeld until she deposited us at our doorstep.
I amost took out several pedestrians trying to drive while I was in Ireland. I opted to be a “walker” instead.
