After all who would look in Calcutta for a key they'd lost in Paris, or London, or Boston? Except someone who was an idiot. Except someone who using this method would never find what they were looking for. I've never offered advice to such people though I've known one or two of that type in my time. I tend to nod and appear interested out of politeness. Actually that's not true, I remember having an argument with some bearded bloke and his whispy girlfriend in the late 1970's because what they said did not make sense. Rich kids travelling to a country racked with poverty to find themselves? Hmmm, too much money not enough imagination, and not a great deal of sensitivity either... Not sure what happened to them.
